Divorce Papers in NC

by | Nov 24, 2023 | Divorce

The North Carolina Equal Access to Justice Commission has prepared and published a North Carolina Divorce Packet with information, steps, and forms for getting an absolute divorce in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Divorce Packet was last revised in 2019 and can be found on the North Carolina Judicial Branch website.

But Beware!

While the Packet provides helpful information and tips about how to get a divorce in North Carolina, the Packet does not address any of the other important issues surrounding divorce like child custody; visitation; legal separation; child support; alimony and post-separation support, division of pensions, joint savings accounts, and retirement plans; equitable distribution of marital property (division of assets and debts); etc. As the Packet says, “If you want these rights, you need to talk to a lawyer.”

Even if you intend to use the Packet to file for a divorce on your own, you should first speak with a Winston-Salem divorce lawyer to make sure your rights are protected and preserved. You simply don’t know what you don’t know.
